The Glory Within

I have been reading The Glory Within by Corey Russell for the past 3 weeks.  Usually it takes me a lot less time to read a book, it only has 168 pages in it.  But this book has taken me a lot longer.  I am still in the process of reading it.  I have been taking notes.  And have been *trying to* apply this to my daily life.  Sometimes I remember and sometimes I do not remember.

This is the book:

It is about the glory of the new birth, the indwelling Spirit, and your call to right now access the life of God within you - through speaking in tongues.

I first heard about this book on the program Sid Roth's It's Supernatural.   And then a lady from church recommended it to me after we were talking one day.

There are a lot of misconceptions on all of the spiritual gifts, especially the gift of speaking in tongues.   I have heard from other people that they believe that speaking in tongues is a sign of the devil, or the babblings of a demon.  Look at the fruit.  If it is good fruit, it is from God.   If it doesn't worship God, and if they are doing things that turn people from God, or if they are glorifying themselves, it is not of God.

There are also people that believe the gifts have died off after the apostles.  But that is not biblical.  In the bible it doesn't say that the gifts are not available now.
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; - Mark 16:17 NIV
Throughout the book, Corey Russell, gives many verses and personal testimony and testimony of others of the power of speaking in tongues, he calls it speaking in the Spirit.
For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God.  Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.  - 1 Corinthians 14:2 NIV
He also says that speaking in the Spirit is speaking to God.  This is a direct quote from the book:
They are not filling the air with sound, and they are not emptying their minds by speaking gibberish.  They are talking to God.
When we pray in the Spirit, we are not engaging people or angels or demons or anything else; we are connecting with our Father in a personal, private conversation.
I am learning a lot in this book, and it makes me hungry for more of the Word of God, and to be Spirit-filled.
