All of the children I sponsor had been waiting longer than 6 months.
Jordan is the first child I sponsored on April 12, 2012. He is from Ecuador, and a year younger than my son. My son and I looked and we both chose Jordan. My son sent the first letter to him, with pictures. He is eagerly waiting for his letters, and to send him letters.
I still wanted to help, and so I learned that I could be a correspondent sponsor. I could write letters to a child who had a financial sponsor but for reasons they (the financial sponsors) don't write letters. I emailed Compassion International and got on the waiting list to be a Correspondent Sponsor. I thought I would be waiting for a long time, and was surprised when I found out I had a new child to write.
Enock is my correspondent child, since April 26, 2012. He is from Rwanda, and I am extremely happy to be writing to this little boy. I pray daily that his sponsor is blessed and able to sponsor him.
Amanda is the second child I sponsored on May 6, 2012. She is from Bolivia, and I was drawn to her. I didn't understand why I kept going back to her picture. And for a few days I kept going back to her. I felt I was meant to be her sponsor.
I joined OurCompassion, a network of child sponsors, advocates, and (I could be wrong) employees of Compassion International. It is the "facebook" of CI. I didn't go looking to sponsor another child, that child found me.
Purnima is the third child I sponsored on May 9, 2012. She is from Bangladesh, and God moves in mysterious amazing ways.
An advocate had her information and was looking for a sponsor for Purnima. Her packet was about to expire, but she knew Purnima's sponsor was in her circle. I was lurking and learning all about the OC. I came across the journal about Purnima, but wasn't really thinking about sponsoring, one of those days where I skim read and was doing other things at the same time.
So when I went to bed that night, I wasn't even thinking about it. I woke up from a dream and couldn't stop thinking about Purnima, her picture was etched in my mind that morning. At first I was doubtful, and worried about how I could manage another child but I stepped out in faith. And now I'm a sponsor to this little girl, and extremely happy.
I requested another correspondent child.
On May 24, 2012, Valerio showed up on my account. He is from Bolivia and also the oldest of all the children I currently sponsor. I pray daily that his sponsor is blessed and able to sponsor him.
On July 23, 2012, I added little Arinda from Uganda to our Compassion family.
My intention was to sponsor 3 children, but I am blessed with 4 beautiful children to love.
